Practical Assistance for Common BGP Requirements
BGP deployments often involve multiple network resources, authorizations and upstream requirements. We help customers understand and coordinate the elements required to bring eligible IPv4 prefixes into their routing environment.
IPv4 Announcement Setup
Assistance preparing and coordinating the requirements for announcing leased or customer-managed IPv4 prefixes through the appropriate network or upstream provider.
BGP Configuration
Practical guidance around BGP configuration, routing policy and common requirements when integrating an IPv4 prefix with your ASN and upstream connectivity.
ASN Coordination
Help align the intended origin ASN, upstream connectivity and IPv4 resource with the planned BGP announcement.
Troubleshooting Assistance
Technical support identifying common BGP, authorization, filtering or announcement issues that may prevent an IPv4 prefix from being accepted or propagated as intended.
What an IPv4 BGP Deployment May Require
Leasing an IPv4 block is only one part of deployment. The prefix must also be associated with the intended origin ASN and may require routing authorization, registry objects and upstream coordination before it can be announced.
1. IPv4 Resource
Start with the IPv4 capacity required for your infrastructure, from /24 blocks to larger resources depending on availability.
- RIR-managed IPv4 resources
- Flexible monthly leasing
- Blocks from /24 and above
2. Routing Authorization
Coordinate the origin ASN and any LOA, RPKI / ROA, IRR route object or related network-resource requirements applicable to the deployment.
- Origin ASN
- LOA where required
- RPKI / ROA
- IRR / route object
3. BGP Announcement
Once the required routing information and authorizations are in place, the prefix can be announced through your network or upstream provider.
- BGP configuration
- Upstream acceptance
- Routing policy review
- Announcement verification
BGP, Route Objects and RPKI / ROA
BGP announcements may be evaluated against multiple sources of routing information. IRR route objects and RPKI ROAs serve different purposes and may both be relevant to an IPv4 deployment.
IRR Route Objects
An IPv4 route object associates a prefix with an origin ASN in an Internet Routing Registry. Some upstream providers use IRR data when building routing filters or validating requested announcements.
- Prefix and origin ASN
- Routing registry information
- Upstream filtering requirements
- RIPE Database authorization where applicable
RPKI / ROA
A Route Origin Authorization provides cryptographically verifiable authorization for an ASN to originate a prefix. Networks performing Route Origin Validation can use this information when evaluating BGP announcements.
- Authorized origin ASN
- Prefix-length authorization
- Route Origin Validation
- ROA updates when routing changes
Services Related to BGP Deployment
A BGP deployment may involve several related network resources. Hyper ICT can assist with these requirements as part of the deployment process. See all IPv4 Network Services.
ASN Services
Assistance with ASN requirements for organizations that need independent BGP routing.
Letter of Authorization
Authorization documentation for eligible IPv4 deployments when required by an upstream provider, data center or network partner.
Route Origin Authorization
ROA assistance for authorizing the intended origin ASN and permitted prefix length.
Route & RIPE Objects
RIPE Database and Maintainer assistance for relevant route and resource objects where applicable.
A Straightforward BGP Assistance Process
Send us the relevant details about your network and intended deployment. We can then help identify and coordinate the routing and network-resource requirements involved.
Tell Us Your Setup
Send us your ASN, IPv4 prefix, upstream or hosting provider details and a short description of what you need to deploy.
Review the Requirements
We review the relevant BGP, IPv4, ASN, LOA, RPKI and routing-registry requirements associated with the deployment.
Coordinate the Setup
We help coordinate the required network-resource information, authorization and routing configuration.
Announce & Verify
Once the required elements are ready, the prefix can be announced through the appropriate network or upstream provider and the resulting routing state can be reviewed.
When You May Need BGP Assistance
BGP assistance can be useful whenever IPv4 resources need to be integrated into a new or existing routing environment.
Deploying Leased IPv4
You have leased an IPv4 prefix and need to integrate it with your infrastructure, ASN or upstream connectivity.
- New IPv4 deployment
- Origin ASN coordination
- LOA requirements
- RPKI / ROA alignment
- Route object requirements
Bringing Your Own ASN
You operate your own Autonomous System and need to coordinate new IPv4 resources with your existing routing infrastructure.
- ASN-based announcements
- IPv4 resource coordination
- Route authorization
- Upstream requirements
Changing Network Providers
You are moving infrastructure, changing an upstream provider or changing the intended origin ASN and need to coordinate routing-related updates.
- Provider migration
- Origin ASN changes
- ROA updates
- Route object updates
- Routing coordination
BGP Assistance Without Taking Control of Your Network
Hyper ICT provides technical assistance around BGP, IPv4 resources and related routing requirements while your infrastructure remains under your control.
What to Keep in Mind
Final router configuration, route acceptance and propagation depend on your network environment, routing policy and third-party upstream providers. Hyper ICT can assist with configuration, authorization, troubleshooting and deployment coordination, but cannot control the routing policies or acceptance decisions of external networks.
BGP Assistance Questions
Common questions about BGP, IPv4 announcements, routing authorization and deployment requirements.
Do I need my own ASN to use BGP?
A BGP route is originated by an Autonomous System, but whether you need an ASN assigned directly to your organization depends on your network architecture and upstream arrangement. We can review your intended deployment and help determine the appropriate setup.
Can Hyper ICT help announce leased IPv4 addresses?
Yes. We can assist with the network-resource, authorization and routing requirements associated with announcing eligible IPv4 prefixes leased through Hyper ICT. The exact setup depends on the intended origin ASN, upstream provider and network environment.
Can you help with BGP configuration?
Yes. Hyper ICT can provide practical assistance with BGP configuration, routing requirements and common troubleshooting. The exact scope depends on your router platform, topology and upstream provider.
Do I need an LOA for a BGP announcement?
It depends on the provider and deployment. An upstream provider, data center or other network partner may request a Letter of Authorization before accepting an IPv4 announcement or related routing request.
Do I need a route object for BGP?
BGP itself does not require an IRR route object to operate, but many upstream providers use Internet Routing Registry data to build route filters or verify requested announcements. Whether a route object is required therefore depends on your provider and routing arrangement.
How does RPKI / ROA relate to BGP?
A Route Origin Authorization specifies which ASN is authorized to originate an IP prefix and can also define the permitted prefix length. Networks performing Route Origin Validation can use this information when evaluating BGP announcements.
Is a route object the same as a ROA?
No. A route object is routing-registry information associating a prefix with an origin ASN. A ROA is part of RPKI and provides cryptographically verifiable authorization for route origin validation. Both may be relevant to the same BGP deployment.
What should I send before contacting you?
If available, send us your ASN, IPv4 prefix or required block size, upstream or hosting provider, intended origin ASN and a short description of the deployment. Existing route objects, ROAs or error messages are also useful when troubleshooting.
